If Lovejoy builds secondary schools we
may lose our country lifestyle. "Pressure will be great to
bring in high density housing", affecting our country lifestyle.
"... there will likely be substantial pressure to extend the
public sewer service to adjacent properties." " As community
leadership changes, the pressure for higher development densities
will increase." (Genesis study, used by Lovejoy Board as
basis for separation)

A developer is already pushing Lucas
City Council to approve 5000 square foot lots for apartments and
duplexes in the Lucas Mixed Use Zoning category, which is along
FM2551. This is 1/10th of an acre or as commonly referred to as zero
lot line. The proposal comes before City Council at the January 6th
meeting. Please attend.

With Lovejoy secondary schools, there
will be traffic congestion at the first school at 2170 and
the middle school at Bethany. Wylie will be the only exit for Lucas
residents in the mornings. 1378 will be backed up also. It may be
8-10 years before another bond proposal to widen 2170 can be submitted
to the voters. (Dallas Morning News, 12/25/02)

Our property values have risen
steadily the past 25 years, and separation could have a negative impact
on property values. Most of Lovejoy's unexpected growth has been at
the secondary level, indicating families are choosing the Allen High
School district for their children. The choice of Allen versus an
unknown 3A school could further limit interest in homes in our district.
(Allen Board Meeting, Dec 16, 2002)

Will Lucas City taxes be raised
to pay for infrastructure needed by the schools? (Police, water, sewer,
roads, fire department - Allen is splitting the cost of widening 2170
to Angel Parkway with Collin County)
-
Individual contributions for booster
club activities will be required in place of business contributions.
-
No town newspaper to highlight student
accomplishments and activities. We would be competing for space in
the Allen American.
-
AllenISD and the city of Allen work very
close together to ensure an overall quality community. Lovejoy will
never have the same synergism with 3 city governments of Allen, Lucas
and Fairview.

The city of Allen cannot annex the city
of Lucas if we consolidate. (Source: Lucas Mayor, Tom Fleps)
New information not included in the flyer...
- May 5th, 2002, Carol Ray and some associates came before
Lucas City Council and stated that LISD was considering purchasing property
along 2170 for a future high school. She asked if Council would consider
allowing sewer hookup for the school and allowing hookup to Allen water
until Lucas could improve the water delivery in that side of town. She
stated that sewer hookup would allow the student population for the
proposed school to be increased to 1500 students. The City had already
begun to seek a site for a new water tower in that area and Ms. Ray
was asked about LISD donating two acres for a water tower for considering
sewer and a trade off for some of the impact fees. She saw no problem
with the proposal at the time. Sewer was considered for our commercial
area across from the proposed school site and could be accessed easily
by the school. In October, the LISD School Board, stated that the school
would not donate any land because it would interfere with their plans
for the site. It is very difficult for the city of Lucas to find someone
willing to sell only 2 acres for a water tower.
The citizens of Lucas will foot the bill for the 2 acres. Who will cover
the cost of sewer pumping equipment if needed?
- Surrounding neighborhoods will be effected by lights
and noise especially at games.
- High school plat shows only 512 parking spaces for a
1500 student high school and teachers.
- Secondary schools will be divisive for our communities
because one community foots the bill, for the additional infrastructure
while not receiving the commercial benefit that Allen has received.
